Building erected by The Sanitary District of Chicago in 1937. WRP consists of two plants; the west side portion of the plant was placed into service in 1930 and the southwest portion of the plant was placed into service in 1939. The Stickney Water Reclamation Plant is the largest wastewater treatment facility in the world. It serves a 260-square mile area, with around 2.38 million people. Up to 1,200 million gallons per day can be treated in the 166 tanks at this 570-acre site, which has its own railway with 30 miles of track.”
