2026 LANDMARKS ILLINOIS RICHARD H. DRIEHAUS FOUNDATION PRESERVATION AWARDS Nominations

Landmarks Illinois is accepting nominations for the 2026 Landmarks Illinois Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards. The annual awards program recognizes exceptional efforts in preserving, restoring and revitalizing historic places in Illinois. Nominations are due June 1.

Route 66 Centennial Event: Brooklyn, Illinois

The village of Brooklyn, Illinois, will dedicate and install Historic Route 66 signs to mark its reconnection with the “Mother Road” at a community event this summer. The installation of these signs will be a long-overdue acknowledgment of Brooklyn’s contribution to the rich and untold history of the highway. Further details will be released in the months ahead. Hidden Peoria

The Peoria Historical Society will host an open house-style event to promote the rich history of Peoria and showcase its beautiful architectural history. Thirteen buildings will be open for tours, including the University of Illinois College of Medicine, City Hall, Pop-a-Shot, Farnsworth’s very own Murray Building and more.

Congreso 2026

Landmarks Illinois is serving as the local partner for Congreso 2026: Latinx Heritage Leadership Summit, a national gathering held every two years of Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC). LHC is the national leader in protecting Latinx heritage and works to strengthen education, conservation and leadership development across the country. Since 2014, Congreso has brought together architects, historians, artists, preservationists, educators, culture keepers and community leaders who are shaping the future of Latinx heritage. In 2026, Congreso will take place in Chicago, from August 19-21 at the Palmer House. Early registration is now available at a discounted rate.
