Glessner House will launch Frances Glessner Lee Week with this black-tie dinner party held in the coach house and dining room. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert, and a special program about Frances Glessner Lee. Also included is a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of her newly restored bedroom and an award presentation to the generous donor who made the restoration possible.

Ragdale Private house tour in Lake Forest

Tour Ragdale, the summer retreat of Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw (1869–1926), located in Lake Forest. It is also the home of the Ragdale Foundation, an art colony that hosts variois creators with interdisciplinary interests. Built in 1897, the house and barn were built in Shaw’s typical Arts and Crafts manner.

Poetry & Place: Nora Wendl

Although Edith Farnsworth is the patron of one of the 20th century’s most celebrated buildings—the Farnsworth House designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Plano, Illinois—much less is known about her work as translator after she sold the house to live in Italy. Nora Wendl, architect, educator and Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico, will read from her upcoming biography on Farnsworth. Cosponsored with Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, IIT College of Architecture, Mies Society (IIT), Farnsworth House (National Trust for Historic Preservation) and The Newberry Library.
