Preservation Awards Panel Discussion

Landmarks Illinois will celebrate the 2019 Landmarks Illinois Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards over a two-night event beginning with a panel discussion on October 17, 2019 featuring preservation professionals and select 2019 award recipients. The panel will focus on the positive impact the 2019 award-winning preservation projects have had on the people who spearheaded them and those who work, live and spend time in these historic spaces.

Tour Day 2019. Beyond Ebony/Jet:The Architecture of John Moutoussamy

Docomomo Chicago hosts a guided trolley tour of eight John Moutoussamy-designed buildings, including the award-winning Lawless Gardens housing complex and Moutoussamy’s own home in Chatham. Moutoussamy is best known as the designer of the Johnson Publishing Company Building, the only high-rise office building in downtown Chicago with an African American client and architect.

Guild October Program: Notre Dame to North Avenue: Our Churches are Burning

In April, the world watched Notre Dame Cathetdral in Paris burn. In the days following, pledges of $1 billion came in to rebuild the landmark. The Guild of the Chicago History Museum will host a panel discussion, followed by a dinner reception, on Chicago places of worship that have experienced similar destruction but are then often overlooked. LI’s President & CEO Bonnie McDonald will be panelist and LI Board Member Will Tippens, Vice President of Related Midwest, is the moderator.

Kincaid Mounds Historic Site Archaeology Field Day

The Kincaid Mounds Archaeology Field Day program includes artifact displays, information tables and a walking tour. The program is free of charge. Kincaid Mounds Archaeological Site is a series of Mississippian Mounds located in Massac County. Landmarks Illinois included the site on its 2018 Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois.
