Landmarks Illinois responds to call for comments on the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the federal agency for historic preservation, recently closed a call for comments on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. First published in 1979, the Secretary’s Standards are widely used in the preservation field to guide the treatment of historic buildings and resources.

Landmarks Illinois was glad to provide comments in a letter submitted to the Advisory Council on July 20, 2023. Our comments focused on making the Secretary’s Standards more responsive to pressing concerns like renewable energy, accessibility and housing. You can read our comments below.
