Averyville WWI Memorial

Averyville is a neighborhood north of downtown Peoria. This memorial consists of a 25 foot tall Greco Roman column with a bronze eagle on top. The column’s base contains four bronze plaques listing the names of WW1 service members..

Joyce Kilmer Triangle

“The Rogers Park community in Chicago, IL, named a triangle median located at the intersection of Birchwood Avenue, Rogers Avenue, and Ashland Avenue after him. The site has a World War I memorial plaque mounted onto a large boulder. A task force of residents of Rogers Park renovated the triangle in 2009 to include new landscaping and a solitary tree in the center.”

Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post

“The Streator American Legion post is named after Leslie G. Woods, who was killed in France Sept. 6, 1917. As a member of the hospital corps, he was one of the first Americans to land in France. He and three other Americans were the first killed in World War I in a German bombing raid. He was the first Soldier from Streator to be killed in that war. His obituary in the Streator Times Press stated that he would be interred in Flander Field, France. The American Legion Post placed the memorial to Leslie G. Woods at the site on Memorial Day, 2000. There is a veteran’s headstone for martin Woods at the site, as well.”

Macon County WWI Memorial University of Illinois War Memorial Peace Memorial

It was part of a fountain, now it’s just a concrete bas relief. The fountain was commissioned in 1968 by the classes of 1918 and 1919 to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of World War I. The fountain was designed by Don Molnar, the campus landscape architect. The dates on the sculpture refer to WWI and ensuing 20th century conflicts up to 1968.
