A bronze plaque affixed to a boulder marks a memorial grove at Gillson Park that commemorates the supreme sacrifice of 13 Wilmette citizens in “the Great World War.” The grove and plaque were dedicated on Armistice Day, 1921. The plaque features curved laurel branches in relief on either side. The inscription reads: “In appreciation of the supreme sacrifice made by these men in the Great War this grove of thirteen trees is reverently dedicated to their memory. Wilmette Post No. 46.
