RECENT PAST SURVEY OF SUBURBAN COOK COUNTY

Recent Past Survey of Suburban Cook County is a more than decade-long partnership project between Landmarks Illinois and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Graduate Program in Historic Preservation. It contains information on more than 4,000 architecturally significant non-residential suburban Chicago buildings dating from 1935 to 1975—a period commonly referred to as the “recent past.”

In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I in 2017, Landmarks Illinois launched a statewide survey of monuments to soldiers and veterans of the Great War.

Launched in 2020 to honor the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, Landmarks Illinois’ “Women Who Built Illinois” database collects information on places in the state designed, engineered and built by women between 1879 and 1979.
