In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I in 2017, Landmarks Illinois launched a statewide survey of monuments to soldiers and veterans of the Great War. Landmarks Illinois World War I Monument Preservation Grant Program
In conjunction with the WWI Monument survey, Landmarks Illinois created and carried out a grant program during 2017 and 2018 that helped restore aging WWI outdoor monuments and memorials around the state. The Landmarks Illinois WWI Monument Preservation Grant Program, which ended in 2018, provided funding to WWI outdoor monuments and memorials in Illinois in need of restoration to recover their dedication-era quality and appearance.
