Frank Butterfield steps into new Chief Operating Officer position at Landmarks Illinois

CHICAGO – Landmarks Illinois is proud to announce that Frank Butterfield has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO). Butterfield began working at Landmarks Illinois in 2013, in the then new role of Springfield Office Director. Over the past eight years, Butterfield has radically advanced the organization’s field work and made it possible for Landmarks Illinois to help more people save places in downstate Illinois.

“Through his dedicated work, Frank has earned the trust of Landmarks Illinois leadership, staff and supporters and has clearly demonstrated his capabilities to take on this new COO position,” said Bonnie McDonald, President & CEO of Landmarks Illinois. “We recognize the need to expand our capacity to meet the growing demand for our services statewide, and we are fortunate to have the resources to create this new leadership role.”

Butterfield will begin serving as Landmarks Illinois’ COO starting July 1, 2021. The new position comes during the organization’s 50th Anniversary year. In addition to day-to-day operational duties, Frank will play a large role in implementing Landmarks Illinois’ next strategic plan and fulfilling its goals to be a relevant, inclusive and diverse organization that thrives for decades to come.

“I am excited to join the leadership team serving as COO at a critical point in Landmarks Illinois’ history,” said Butterfield. “I am thankful for the remarkable opportunity, and I look forward to working with Bonnie, the staff and board on expanding our already extensive work throughout Illinois.”

Landmarks Illinois remains committed to having a representative in the field serving the people of downstate Illinois. The organization is now accepting applications for the Regional Advocacy Manager position, based in downstate Illinois, to serve in the role vacated by Butterfield.
