Parkside Apartments

Kewanee

Originally known as the Parkside Hotel when it was built in 1915, then in 1950 as the Hotel Kewanee and now the new Parkside Apartments which has undergone a major rehabilitation.
Purchased by the Henry County Housing Development Group in 2006, this project was a combination of restoration and rehabilitation, utilizing historic documents, plans and photographs to maintain the integrity of the historic structure while updating it for modern living accommodations. Original hotel rooms were converted into apartments and designed to accommodate the original wide hallways and transoms over the doorways. The façade as well as many windows were restored and repaired. Even after vandalism destroyed the original front desk, marble salvaged from the building was used to construct a new one. The Parkside Apartments Project not only provides affordable senior housing, but has also helped spark an interest in preservation in the community as a means for revitalizing downtown Kewanee.
