The Women’s Service League started during the war had money left over at war’s end and proposed this monument for all who served from Ransom and surrounding Allen Township. One interesting fact about it was that the women were adamant that it was NOT a Memorial. It has always been called “the monument” since that was what they intended: a monument to those who served in the last war in history. They truly believed it was the war to end all wars.
