Stockton American Legion Post No. 449: Thompson Cemetery, Stockton
In 2006 the Thompson Cemetery Restoration Group was formed with an interest in the preservation of the 1.5-acre Thompson Cemetery, located within the Apple River Canyon Nature Preserve. The site had been abandoned with no dedicated caretaker maintaining the cemetery. Landmarks Illinois awarded the Stockton American Legion Post No. 449 a Donnelley Fund grant to support a 1.5 day educational, hands-on advanced cemetery monument workshop performed by John Heider, who provides training coordinated by IHPA.
