Clare and Ken Goerlich

Quincy

Clare and Ken Goerlich have demonstrated their exceptional stewardship of historic properties through their work in the South Side German Historic District of Quincy. The Goerlichs moved into the neighborhood in 1971 and immediately started the work of restoring and maintaining their own home. With vacancies and lack of building maintenance, the neighborhood of homes dating from the 1840s to 1930s was in decline by the 1990s. Instead of following the trend of departure, the Goerlichs chose to reinvest in their historic neighborhood. The couple completed 10 restoration projects in the district between 1994 and 2013. This is even more remarkable considering that the retired Goerlichs performed much of the work themselves.
