Jacobs Block and Rock River Bank

400 Block of Washington Street and the 100 Block of N. Fourth Street (Jacobs Block)
101 South Fourth Street (Rock River Bank)
Oregon (Ogle County)

After more than a year of community protest, the Oregon City Council voted in February 2005 against a proposed Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) road widening project that would have demolished two prominent corner buildings at the intersection of Ill. Rtes. 2 and 64. The buildings, which date from 1870 and 1935, are part of a downtown district surrounding the Ogle County Courthouse Square that had been determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, based on an LPCI-funded independent study. Oregon is located on the Rock River, 25 miles south of Rockford.
