Bernice’s Tavern, 3238 S. Halsted, is a “buzzer bar”, and on most days customers must be
buzzed in.
2. LI staffers, Mina McGuire, Suzanne Germann, and Lisa DiChiera, model our new t-shirts at Shinnick’s Pub, 3758 S. Union.
3. “Pub Crawlers” at Schaller Pump, 3714 S. Halsted, which is the longest continuously operated tavern in Chicago.
4. Enjoying the house specialty beer, Svyturys Ekstra, imported from Lithuania at Bernice’s Tavern.
5.
One row of a large wall display featuring 84 beer cans in the ladies room at Maria’s, 960 W. 31st Street.

LI members and friends toured four historic taverns in one of Chicago’s oldest neighborhoods.

Steve’s, 13200 S. Baltimore, is housed in an early-20th century tall-ceiling corner store.
2. A stuffed raccoon at Club 505, 13505 S. Brainard, pours himself a drink while holding court in a memorabilia-filled corner.
3. Steve’s features an ornate pressed tin ceiling and a mezzanine, which holds a vast collection of decanters.
4. Landmarks Illinois members Debbie Dodge, Andy Pierce, and Jack Spicer enjoy the libations at the South Shore Inn, 136 11 S. Brainard.
