Pullman
Chicago

This vibrant historic community on Chicago’s far south side continues to struggle with the economic and organizational challenges it must overcome to re-establish a restaurant at the Hotel Florence and to find a use for the long-vacant Pullman factory building – both state-owned historic sites. Given the changing environment for tourism and the limited funds available for state historic sites it seems likely that a major rethinking of the goals for the factory and its surrounding community are in order.

Urban Land Institute was hired by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency to develop a report of recommendations. The consultants encouraged the community, while wonderfully engaged and active, to come together to speak as one voice for the future.
