RETURN

  Jim Peters

President Jim Peters to leave Landmarks Illinois
Chicago

Jim Peters will leave his post as president and executive director of Landmarks Illinois at the end of October, Board Chairman Shelley Gorson announced today. Peters is leaving to consult and teach in the field of historic preservation.

Peters joined Landmarks Illinois in 2001. “Working at Landmarks Illinois has been a great experience, especially in being able to work on saving major historic buildings in Chicago and communities throughout the state,” Peters said.

“Jim's contribution to Landmarks Illinois over the last decade, and particularly the past three years as president, is incalculable,” said Gorson. “There is simply no one better at working with all interested parties in preserving our architectural treasures. We wish him the very best, and hope that we can count on him for consulting assistance in the future. He will always be a valued member of Landmarks Illinois.”

Peters formerly worked for the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development for 11 years in a variety of roles, including director of Central Area Planning and as deputy commissioner of the Landmarks Division, which staffed the Commission on Chicago Landmarks.

The Landmarks Illinois Board of Directors expects a seamless transition for a new president. Board member and preservationist Jean Follett will act as interim director until a replacement for Peters is found. A national search is underway.
