December, 2007, 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly announced
Lakeshore Athletic Club would be renovated and converted to luxury senior
housing. A purchase agreement is underway between Northwestern University
and Northbrook based Integrated Development LLC. Alderman Reilly stated
that despite pressure from Northwestern and many real estate leaders, who
felt renovation was not economically feasible, it became clear after months
of work with the Streeterville community, advocacy groups and preservation
experts that there was a preservation option.
