Landmark Protection for Wrigley Field                      RETURN

After more than two years of discussion with the Chicago Cubs baseball team, the city of Chicago is proceeding with plans to designate Wrigley Field as a local landmark. If approved, Wrigley Field would become the nation’s first professional sports facility to be protected as a local landmark.

A revised designation proposal was approved March 6, 2003 by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. A final vote by the Commission is expected early this summer, after which time the proposal—if approved—will be sent to the City Council for a final determination.

A proposal to expand the bleacher seating of the 90-year-old ballpark was supported by LPCI in 2002 (CLICK HERE FOR STORY), but it has not yet been approved by the City Council, which has authority over construction over the public right of way.

We encourage you to email your support for this important designation to: wrigley@cityofchicago.org
