Five-Year Anniversary of the Saving of the
Farnsworth House
2003-2008

Plano

On December 12, 2003, representatives from Landmarks Illinois and the National Trust for Historic Preservation sat anxiously in the Sotheby’s New York auction house participating in the historic bidding war for the internationally important Mies van der Rohe designed Farnsworth House. After a feverish back-and-forth, cheers erupted as the partnering organizations won, successfully saving the architectural icon that now operates as one of the world’s most famous modern house museums.
