Jane B. Converse was also honored for the restoration of the 1881 Second Empire-style Easton Mansion at 1125 Main St., Peoria. The once-magnificent estate, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in Peoria’s Historic District, was deteriorating when Converse purchased it in 1997. The sensitive and meticulous restoration returned the building to its original grandeur and represents one woman’s determination to save an important piece of Peoria’s past.
