Board of Managers for the Powell Press Building Kenyon & Associates

The award honored the recipients’ efforts moving and restoring the Powell Press Building. The structure, one of the oldest in Peoria’s Central Business Area, was given to the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation by Caterpillar Inc. The Peoria Historical Society and the Landmarks Foundation joined together to form a Board of Managers for the property, which in turn, retained Kenyon & Associates as preservation architects that supervised the moving of the building to the Riverfront and restoring it to its original form. It is now owned by the City of Peoria and used as a Riverfront Visitors’ Center. To keep the building eligible for the National Register a new plaza sidewalk area was designed, with input from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, for the front of the building.
