Appropriate New Construction or Infill Award

Lake County Museum, Lake County Forest Preserve and David Woodhouse Architects

Lake County

The groups received the award for the renovation and first phase of expansion of the Lake County Museum. An important regional history museum located in a 1920s dairy farm, an operating department of the Lake County Forest Preserve District, the Lake County Museum needed additional space for exhibitions, education and recreation. A new wing linking the museum’s administrative and storage buildings features three silo-shaped spaces. The museum’s classically proportioned new entry portico and grass courtyard express the pastoral quality of rural American architecture.
