McCormick Place Redux
Chicago
Landmarks Illinois has partnered with
the Chicago Architectural Club and AIA Chicago to sponsor an “ideas” competition
for the future reuse of McCormick Place East, built in 1971 and designed by C.F.
Murphy and Assoc. Since 2009, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority has
discussed the need to extensively renovate or vacate the lakefront building.
Some open space advocates have endorsed demolition as a means to return the site
to parkland. Others see the building as an important example of mid-20th century
design. Competition submittals are due April 1.
