Send a Thank You

To Governor Quinn and House Bill 1002 Sponsors

On August 17, Governor Quinn signed House Bill 1002, which protects the Illinois Historic Sites Fund and the Presidential Library and Museum Operating Fund from "fund sweeps," which allows the Governor to take money out of designated funds and use them for other purposes.

Because there are relatively so few monies set aside for the state's preservation activities, and because the state's fiscal situation has already caused cutbacks in the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency’s budget, Landmarks Illinois agrees that these monies should be protected.

Please voice your appreciation to the Governor and the bill sponsors for their support of Illinois’ historic sites and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency’s mission to educate the public about Illinois’ heritage.

The Sponsors of the Bill Included:

House Sponsors

Rep. Raymond Poe - Jack D. Franks - Patrick J. Verschoore - Michael K. Smith and Rich Brauer.

Senate Sponsors

Sen. Deanna Demuzio - Don Harmon, Tim Bivins and Kirk W. Dillard.

Senator Deanna Demuzio and Rep. Rich Brauer are co-chairs of the Illinois Historic Preservation Legislative Caucus. Rep. Poe, Rep. Verschoore, Rep. Smith, Sen. Harmon and Sen. Dillard are all members of the caucus.
