Railroad Water Tower
The Centralia Foundation received a $2,500 grant in 2004 for the restoration
of its wooden railroad water tower, which is only one of two such surviving
structures on the Illinois Central Railroad line, between Cairo and
Chicago. Built in 1900, the tower is closely tied to this southern Illinois
town’s importance as a railroad center. |
