Civic Center
2100 Ridge Ave.,

Evanston

This 1924 structure was designed by architect Henry Schlacks as a Catholic girls' school. The City of Evanston is planning to vacate the structure following completion of a new civic center and city hall. On September 13th the Evanston Preservation Commission voted to recommend landmark designation of the building to the City Council, however community preservationists are concerned City Council will not accept the recommendation and the building will be sold, demolished, and the site redeveloped for residential development.

What Can I Do?  Please write to the City Council—Evanston residents should send a copy of the letter to their local alderman—urging council members to designate this building and its site as a local landmark. (Write letter to the attention of Julia A. Carroll, City Manager, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston, IL 60201; check www.cityofevanston.org  for local alderman contact information.)
