Westinghouse
High School

3301 W. Franklin Blvd.,
Chicago

The building’s distinctive five-story tower and main entrance are embellished by carved eagles and Prairie-style detailing. It was designed in 1919 for the Bunte Brothers Candy Factory by Schmidt, Garden & Martin, a firm known for its influential designs, including the Montgomery Ward Warehouse.

This sprawling complex—one of the largest Chicago School-style designs ever built—is scheduled to be demolished following completion of a new high school facility. Much of its current footprint will be replaced by athletic fields and parking lots. This structure was previously listed on our Chicagoland Watch List for 2002-03.
