This Edward Dart-designed house was built Louis Ancel and his wife in 1961. Ellen and David Muslin, the current owners, purchased the property in 2006 with the intent to demolish the house and subdivide the property. A public outcry by neighboring property owners caused the Muslins to have a change of heart. They decided to restore and update their home, while following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Their work earned the Muslins a Historic Preservation Award from the Village of Glencoe in 2009. Their choice to save this mid-20th century house has also helped to retain the original neighborhood character. The jury remarked that this is a “true preservation story of an often-underappreciated period of architecture.”
